"we're reversing economic inequality and creating jobs for people."
-Bill Hynes
Three members from an extremely popular 90’s American rock band, Live, did something that surprised the masses and “rocked” the community of York, Pennsylvania forever. Patrick Dahlheimer, Chad Gracey, and Chad Taylor returned home, to York, and reinvested into the community through the creation of Think Loud. The three members of the band, with the help of Bill Hynes as CEO, created the organization known as Think Loud, located in the heart of York county at 210 York Street. Think Loud addresses several of the issues in York County dealing with infrastructure through its various branches. Think Loud Advisors, Think Loud Development, United Fiber and Data and are just a few to name.
Think Loud Advisors is the investment branch of the group as it helps local up-and-coming entrepreneurs start their very own business by supplying proper guidance and advice. Think Loud Development is the division that works with York’s real estate. This division is known for its work with buying abandoned buildings and lots throughout York and “developing” them into a modern space such as lofts or offices. United Fiber and Data is the technology division of Think Loud that has a mission to create a 300 mile fiber optic line from New York City to Northern Virginia. It also plans to create four data centers in Pennsylvania, including one in York County. This project can result in more than 100 jobs created in York county alone, and possibly many more to come. Through these various branches, Think Loud has successfully been able to shape the community of York with its beneficial missions that improve countless areas of York, including infrastructure. The hard work of Think Loud has not only brought positivity and prosperity to York, but it is also progressively pushing York County to becoming a place of ingenuity. |
Global Connection: Ebola and Malaria in Africa. Sea level risings all around the world. Drug Wars in Mexico. Each one of these issues affects a different part of the world, and a different part of life. Ebola and Malaria are both diseases common to Africa that wreck havoc on the people living in the undeveloped areas. Right now, an Ebola outbreak has destroyed the foundation of life built in Western Africa, killing people of all ages. On the other hand, sea level risings are increasingly being reported all around the world. As a direct result of glaciers melting, the ocean is rising surprisingly fast. If this continues, certain areas of land that act as a home to civilization today, could be underwater in the future. Finally, drug wars in Mexico. The drug war in Mexico has resulted in many lives lost and in many people addicted to drugs that are too easy to get, when they are still illegal.
All three of the issues, found in different parts of the world, affecting different communities, are connected by one major strand of life; infrastructure. Infrastructure is defined as the following according to dictionary.reference.com: “the basic, underlying framework or features of a system or organization.” In Africa, a lack of proper housing and protection against the disease, a lack of infrastructure, has caused Ebola and Malaria to spread all over the majority of the undeveloped nation. Not only that, with sea levels gradually rising, infrastructure such as buildings near the coast could be underwater in the near future. Basically, the rising sea levels would cause the destruction of infrastructure around the world. In Mexico, there is a drug war occurring that has ended up in many lives lost. Cartels are taking over warehouses, and other real estate, which is infrastructure, so they can run their operation.
Infrastructure plays a major role in creating a prosperous, well rounded community. Without proper structure for things such as buildings, roads, and even technology; communities are often left incapable of providing essential needs to its people. Infrastructure issues are found all around the world, as can be seen in Africa, resulting in an outbreak of ebola and malaria-in the past. Infrastructure issues can also be found in York, Pennsylvania. Abandoned buildings, urban blight, even technological issues can all be found in York county, Issues involving infrastructure have impacted humans in a negative way, resulting in even more issues such as poverty, obesity, and illness.
However, these infrastructure issues are being looked at and changed in a positive manner all around the world. To deal with malaria, a disease transmitted by mosquitoes, Nets for Life is an organization that provides people in malaria infested regions with proper netting to avoid mosquitoes. To deal with sea level risings, the World Nature Organization is spreading awareness about the issue. To deal with the Mexican drug wars, the Ciudad Juarez Rehabilitation Center has done great work helping rehabilitate those who have abused drugs. The Ciudad Juarez rehab center was doing such prominent work that the cartel killed 18 people including workers and patients. Furthermore, in York, an organization that directly helps with the infrastructure issue in York county is Think Loud. In summary, infrastructure is an area of life that can create issues, all around the world, including right here in York, Pennsylvania
