families throughout Pennsylvania.”
- Children's Home of York
The Children's Home of York is nominated for a Focus Forward award because they try to enhance the life of children in every way possible. Much like the other nominees, they are caring, loving, determined, nurturing, generous, and devoted.
There are many children in Pennsylvania that don't have homes and are stuck in the foster care system because they are considered "special needs" children, or because they are a certain race. The Children's Home of York makes a great effort to match children with families who they think would be most compatible. They work with the children and many youth agencies with the intentions to connect waiting children to families.

The Children's Home of York has a specialized foster care program for boys and girls from birth to the age of 18 that is designed to give them a family life experience at a time of need, mainly when their previous family is unable to care for them. In York County Pennsylvania, the Children’s Home of York is the oldest existing child and family supported agency. Each year, their services positively support and secure children and families in need. They provide training to prepare the families and the children for the adoption process. They also check the available medical information that they have and also provide post-adoption services. For example, respite care, adoptive parent support groups and case management services.
The goal of a foster family is to reunite the child with their family by providing for them and teaching them, whether this may be short or long term. The Children’s Home of York is able to invest with the help of the community $650,000 each year in the children and families they serve. They do this along with giving them love, a home, care, and inspiration to move past their current situation. This, overall, is why we chose to award the Children's Home of York- for their commendable and generous work in the community.
Obviously, every child has the right to love, be loved and have a home. Many children could not have this necessity without the help of the Children's Home of York. Each child and teen has their own memorable story that led them to the help of the Children’s Home of York. The reasons they seek help is personal to each of them and no matter the severity it is still a devastating experience nonetheless. They could be stuck in a far worse situation, but because of this nurturing facility, they have a bed, a meal and a hug whenever they need it.

Rights around the World
218 million children around the world ages 5-17 are forced into child labor. Worldwide, these children work long long hours in hazardous conditions. Some of them endure beatings, sexual violence and humiliation. Most of these children are malnourished and rarely get to see their parents. No child, ever deserves any of this. A child is precious, a gift that has the right to be loved, a right to a home, and a nurturing family. Children are born with the rights to play, learn, be healthy, and grow. Children that are forced into child labor are not able to have these rights. But the Children's Home of York makes is easy for children to have fun, learn, have a home, and be a child while they can. They offer many services such as "Permanency Partners", their goal is to help the children and find them families that they can be with forever.
Since 1971, doctors have performed 336 million abortions and 196 million sterilizations in China. China's One Child Policy has reduced the Chinese population by 400 million, but at a price; brutally killing defenseless children. It is a basic universal right to have a life and the on child policy is a violation of children's right to live in general. When a child has their life taken away from them, they don't have the chance to experience anything in life, including a family, friends and even something as simple as a hug. Even though this is happening in a totally different country than the United States, children still deserve the same rights there as they would here
Many young Korea children either became homeless or orphaned or they were executed because of the North Korea and South Korea Conflict (Korean War). When the North Korean army invaded South Korea in 1950, half a million homes were destroyed and millions of families were disrupted. In 1954, an international child welfare agency estimated that two million children under the age of 18 had been displaced from their homes. At the end of the Korean war, hundreds of thousands of Koreans-including children-found themselves on opposite sides of the 38th Parallel from relatives and families. They became the "separated families" who until the 1980s had no hope of seeing each other and even today have only the slightest likelihood of reunion. The situation is so common that nearly every Korean family is touched in some way by separation. The war ripped families apart and placed children so far away from their families that they had to be orphaned; it ripped the child's right to ever be with their family ever again.
