About the CoalitionThe Healthy York County Coalition creates awareness of relative illnesses. They also collaborate with other local organizations to educate and inform people on proper protocol to take when dealing with these illnesses. They have monthly events to get involved with the community, and create healthy relationships with other health organizations. Every three years, the Healthy York County Coalition conducts an analysis on the health of York County. They are then able to identify a community's strengths and weaknesses making it possible for them to identify the problems facing the community and then offering a solution to solve it.This organization is not only making a difference in York county, they are also providing efforts to spread awareness about diseases affecting people. Throughout the world, people are suffering from life threatening diseases- such as HIV/AIDS, obesity, depression, smoking & tobacco use; likewise, they don't receive the medical assistance they need to stay healthy. The Healthy York County Coalition makes a difference in the community, which impacts the world, one step at a time.

Global ConnectionThe Healthy York County Coalition conducts a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) to determine the most common health disparities among York County locals. Once the research is completed, the Coalition looks creates a list of priorities to help York become a healthier and happier place to live. On a global scale, The World Health Organization collects information on global issues and uses their data to educate the world about certain health issues. They provide data on homicides, malnutrition, and diseases. Similarly, The Healthy York County Coalition gives an insight to locals on the strengths and weaknesses of York County. Both organizations strive to help people learn about the health of humans around them. They want people to learn about others who are suffering and struggling with health issues. Most importantly, they both want to spread awareness about health and being aware of the people around you. The Healthy York County Coalition and The World Health Organization are making a difference to the world and the community one step at a time.

Why they deserve the Focus Forward Award
The Healthy York County Coalition has provided assistance to locals across York County for 20 years. Their main goal is to target health disparities that are most prevalent in York County. Every three years, they conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment (CHNA) to regulate common health problems. An assessment will be conducted in June 2015. They determine the strengths and weaknesses of health issues in York County. Currently, the Healthy York County Coalition prioritizes in health care access, adult overweight/obesity, depression, end of life planning, health literacy, oral health, prenatal care, and smoking/tobacco. Since 1994, volunteers have dedicated their time to helping the community become a healthier place to live.
